Our Lessons
I have been teaching for 9 years now and 7 years ago I completed a “One Year Diploma Course in Modern Music Performance” at Drumtech at the Powerhouse Institute.
I am happy to say that back in January 2008 I took on my first full time teacher, Ian, to teach in my Bishop’s Stortford studio and I am now training up a further two more teachers to take on the workload.
They have all been taught and trained by myself using my unique learning material. They have a great passion for teaching and performing as well as furthering their own learning experience.
All our teachers are laid back and great with younger learners…. Though we have a great deal of guys and girls who MIGHT consider themselves “grown-ups” on our books too.
We’re all fully CRB checked and I am glad to say that we passed with flying colours!
You have a choice of learning in the Bishop’s Stortford or Hoddesdon studio – from one to one to our new “learn with a friend” experience.
In Hoddesdon, the biggest studio, we can have up to three people learning at the same time.
Each person gets there own room with drum kit for the entire time but we can open up the studios so that you can have jam sessions and do a bit of group learning.
Learning with a friend is more fun and can really encourage
people to practice as they not only have someone to practice
with if they want, but they also have another person to
encourage them along the way.
All the material taught is from my own books
- which I have
personally tried and tested and am constantlyadding to.
However, if you do wish to go through one of the
grading system such as “rock school” then you can still do
that with us.
You can learn a range of drum kit styles including:
• Rock (the most common as it is the easiest)
• Pop
• RnB/Soul/Hip Hop
• Funk
• Jazz/Swing/Big Band
• Shuffle/Blues
Metal
You can also learn "double pedal" but only
when we feel you are at a stage to be able to play it properly!
We teach on an acoustic kits (i.e. not electronic) and we’ll can teach
you how to play them like a musical instrument as well as develop
a good ear for music.
We’re also very hot on improvisation, which means once you grasp some basics you’ll be able to (within reason) be able to play along to most tracks.
We always keep a level of enjoyment in the lessons however believe that a little hard work is necessary in all aspects of life sometimes.
UNLIKE most drum teachers we teach people from the age of 6yrs and upwards and in fact some of my best players have been under the age that most teachers would take on.
We keep a level of professionalism to our lessons but also like them to be on an informal basis as we don’t really like to think of ourselves as “Teachers” but more of someone there to help you get a better understanding of the instrument.
